SingLinkVPN Protocols FAQ

Every SingLinkVPN connection runs on an in-house SingLink protocol. This page answers the common questions about Beta, Sola, Mini and 2.0: what each one is, which plans include it and when to pick it. For the full technical detail, see each protocol page.

Protocol overview

Which protocols does SingLinkVPN use?

#

SingLinkVPN uses its own SingLink protocol family: Beta, Sola and SingLink 2.0, plus Mini, a disguise layer added on top of those protocols. Which ones you can use depends on your plan.

Platforms
All platforms
  • Beta: built for fast connections, available on every plan and the only protocol on the Free Plan. See the Beta protocol page.
  • Sola: a next-generation high-performance protocol whose overall performance exceeds Beta, available on Plus and above. See the Sola protocol page.
  • SingLink 2.0: built for high stability and for coping with difficult networks, available on Pro, Max and Rich. See the SingLink 2.0 protocol page.
  • Mini: not a standalone protocol but an extra layer of in-house disguise technology on top of an existing protocol. Mini node names end in Mini, and Mini is available on Plus and above. See the Mini page.

SingLinkVPN adds new protocols from time to time for different needs. When a new protocol goes live, you can find and use its nodes through the node labels.

How do I choose between SingLinkVPN Beta, Sola, Mini and 2.0?

#

Use Beta for everyday browsing, Sola for the best all-round speed and latency, a Mini node for video and streaming, and SingLink 2.0 for long sessions that must not drop, as long as your plan includes that protocol.

No protocol is the best everywhere: real-world results depend on your region, carrier, device and node load. Try a few nodes on each protocol your plan includes, then stick with the one that suits your network.

Notes

  • The Free Plan and Fast include Beta only. Sola and Mini start at Plus, and SingLink 2.0 needs Pro, Max or Rich.
  • If nodes on one protocol will not connect, Plus and above can try a node on a different protocol first.

Each protocol

What is the Beta protocol, and why does the SingLinkVPN Free Plan only use Beta?

#

Beta is SingLinkVPN’s in-house protocol built for fast connections, and every plan can use it. The Free Plan includes Beta protocol nodes only; Sola, Mini and 2.0 are paid-plan benefits.

All plans (including the Free Plan)

Beta suits everyday browsing, HD video and light data transfers. The higher your plan, the higher Beta’s speed cap; see the Beta protocol page for how speed varies by plan.

Free nodes are shared by all free users and resources are limited, so speeds can vary at busy times. Paid plans use separately allocated high-performance resources and are more consistent.

“Beta Max” in the node list is the fully specced version of a Beta node.

What is the Sola protocol, and which SingLinkVPN plans include it?

#

Sola is SingLinkVPN’s next-generation high-performance protocol. Its overall performance exceeds Beta, with further gains in speed, latency, packet loss and bandwidth utilization, and it is available on Plus and above.

Plus and above

Sola redesigns the core transport architecture on top of the SingLink 2.0 technology stack. It is available on Plus, Pro and the Max and Rich data packs; the Free Plan and Fast do not include Sola nodes.

The published Sola performance comparisons come from internal tests, not independent third-party testing, and real-world results vary by region, carrier, device and node load. See the Sola protocol page.

“Sola Mini” in the node list is a Sola node with the Mini disguise layer added; see what Mini is.

What is SingLinkVPN Mini, and how do I spot a Mini node?

#

Mini is not a standalone protocol but an extra layer of in-house disguise technology added on top of protocols such as Beta, Sola and 2.0. Any node whose name ends in Mini, such as Sola Mini or 2.0 Mini, is a Mini node.

Plans
Plus and above

Mini nodes are built for instant video start, high-speed streaming and very low latency. Authentication, encryption and data transport are still handled by the underlying protocol; Mini is an extra layer of processing on top.

Mini starts at Plus and is also available on Pro, Max and Rich. Which Mini nodes you see also depends on which underlying protocols your plan unlocks: for example, without SingLink 2.0 you will not see 2.0 Mini nodes.

Notes

  • If a Mini node will not connect, switch back to the plain node of the same protocol (the name without Mini); it runs the same underlying protocol.
#

SingLink 2.0 is built for high stability and difficult networks, suited to long sessions that need a steady connection, and is available on Pro, Max and Rich. Pro also gets reserved nodes that serve only 2.0 connections.

Plans
Pro and above

The reserved nodes serve SingLink 2.0 connections only and are not shared with other protocols. They are currently an extra benefit of the Pro plan: Max and Rich can use the 2.0 protocol but do not include these reserved nodes. Fast and Plus do not include 2.0.

SingLink 2.0 is SingLinkVPN’s main protocol generation, and Sola was developed on its technology stack; the two do not replace each other. For stability details see the SingLink 2.0 protocol page, and for the internal connection flow see the SingLink protocol white paper.
